Pot Noodle Chicken Fajita flavour

Every now and then, I crave a Pot Noodle. They’re not particularly tasty, and they’re not particularly healthy. In fact, they’re actually pretty unhealthy. Nevertheless, when I saw the (presumably new) Chicken Fajita flavour in the supermarket this morning, I had to try it.

I opened the lid and the initial smell was not very appealing. I can only describe it as smelling like fresh vomit. However, I was hungry and didn’t have the time or energy to prepare anything else, so I would be eating it, whether it tasted like fresh vomit or not.

The usual preparation instructions apply. Boil some water and fill to the line. Leave to stand for 2 minutes, then add the sauce sachet, stir and leave to stand for another 2 minutes.

The sauce sachet was tomato sauce. My initial reaction to seeing this, was one of disappointment. Given that this was Chicken Fajita flavour, I expected some sort of hot sauce, even a mild one, and certainly not ketchup.

I added the tomato sauce, gave it a stir and replaced the foil lid. The instructions on the pot state that while you’re waiting for the 2 minutes to pass, you should visit the official Pot Noodle website. So I did just that. It was a pretty basic website, with a list of Pot Noodle flavours and stuff. To my surprise, the Chicken Fajita Pot Noodle was not listed on the official website as one of the flavours. There was no mention of it anywhere on the website. So much for it being “the chosen juan.”

Anyway, the 2 minutes had past and I pulled back the foil lid. The fresh vomit smell had fortunately disappeared and had been replaced by a nicer, slightly meaty smell. Despite my low expectations, I took my first bite and was very pleasantly surprised. This was nice. Really nice. With each bite, I enjoyed it more and more. Despite the tomato sauce sachet, rather than a hot sauce sachet, it had a nice, spicy kick to it. Not enough to blow your brains out, but not enough to overpower the taste of the noodles either. I would say the spice level was just right.

There was nothing on the packaging, or rather, pot, to suggest that this was a limited-edition flavour, but I hope that it is going to become a permanent flavour, if it hasn't already. Easily the best flavour of Pot Noodle that I've had in ages, if not ever. It certainly is the "chosen juan." If you’re partial to a Pot Noodle, give it a try. I reckon you'll enjoy it.
