Greggs Sausage Roll
Aah, the humble sausage roll. In the not-too-distant past, if you wanted a sausage roll, at least a warm one, you had to go to one of those old-school bakeries, the sort that do not really exist on the high street anymore. Enter Greggs, the ubiquitous mainstay of almost every town and city across the UK.
Sold pretty much throughout the entire day, their sausage rolls are probably the most popular item on their menu. Given the reasonably low price (I paid £1.25 today) and the acceptable taste, I can see why they're popular. It won't fill you up, but it is certainly an adequate-sized snack, which is convenient to eat when in a rush, and easy to eat even when driving.
The texture is quite firm, with a bit of a crunch to the flaky pastry. This can make it a bit messy to eat though. It has a slightly spicy taste (perhaps peppery is a better description), but that gives it a pleasing, savoury flavour.
If you're looking for a quick item to eat on the go, which usually has plentiful availability in every branch of Greggs, the sausage roll is the one to go for.
