Five Guys Bacon Cheeseburger
The concept at Five Guys is fairly simple. You ask for your burger and you can customise it with as many (or as little) toppings as you like, all for the same price.
The burgers at Five Guys are always made to order and you even get to watch them make it, which is a nice touch.
Yes, this means that you may have to wait a little longer but at least you know your food will be fresh. The average wait (from the point of payment) is around 8 minutes. However, even on the occasions when the restaurant has been busy, I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes to receive my order.
The standard sized burgers at Five Guys have two burger patties inside. If you want a burger with just one patty, ask for a Little Hamburger, Little Cheeseburger or a Little Bacon Cheeseburger instead. However, if you order a standard sized burger but want extra patties, you can add as many as you want, although you'll be charged for each extra patty. In my opinion, two patties is more than enough. Any more and you'll probably struggle to fit it inside your mouth. Of course, that depends on how big your mouth is…
I asked for a Bacon Cheeseburger, plus lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, grilled jalapeno, peppers and hot sauce.
Now on to the burger itself. First of all, the burger feels very heavy. It's wrapped in foil but as soon as you unwrap it, it looks very tasty, with a generous amount of each topping inside. The burger patties are always cooked well-done. As far as I know, you can't ask for them to be cooked any other way, but that's fine by me. The burger bun itself is lightly toasted. This keeps the burger together nicely, and stops the bun from falling apart.
Now the taste test. This is hands down, the most delicious burger that I have ever eaten! The patties are nice and soft, and the toppings are fresh and complement the burger patties perfectly.
The bacon is cut into small strips. They are slightly crispy, but have a lot of taste and are not overly salty tasting.
For those of you who are wondering, you can also ask for your burger as a lettuce wrap, where the burger and toppings are wrapped inside lettuce, instead of a bun. This may be a better option for those who are watching their carbs. Alternatively, you can also ask for you burger and toppings in a bowl. The "bowl" is actually a foil container. If you ask for your burger as a lettuce wrap or in a bowl, it still costs the same as if you had it in a bun. I think this is a little disappointing and feel that the bun-less options should be slightly cheaper.
Price is often a point of contention when it comes to Five Guys. I often hear people complain about the price. For me personally, I feel that the price is justified. Yes, I could probably buy two smaller burgers at other fast food places for the same price, but would I enjoy them as much? Very unlikely.
If you want a really tasty burger, I would definitely recommend the Five Guys Bacon Cheeseburger. It's really tasty, fully customisable and big enough to satisfy even the biggest of appetites! One curious thing about this burger though, is that I couldn’t get rid of the “meaty” smell from my hands for the rest of the day, no matter how many times I washed them. Not the worst problem to have, but still a little strange.
